It as an inauspicious return of CPL T20 cricket to Jamaica, as the Barbados Royals defeated host Jamaica Kingsmen by five runs at Sabina Park, Kingston, Jamaica on August 11, 2026.
Jamaica won the toss and elected to bowl and found the going tough, as Brandon King with an attacking 73 off 51 balls lead the way for the Royals to reach 206/3 off 20 overs . King’s knock was supported by Sherfane Rutherford who scored 50 from 28 balls, and wicketkeeper Quinton de Kock, who scored 42.
Bowling for Jamaica, Hassan Khan was the pick of the bowlers, taking one wicket for 19 runs off three overs.
Jamaica in reply fell short in the last over. They wobbled to 8 runs for 3 wickets within nine balls, before reaching 132-7 off 13.3 overs. Veteran Andre Russell and young Vitel Lawes had a 69-runs partnership and gave hope of a memorable comeback, but when they were both dismissed in the final over, the Royals seized victory.
Russell was the inning’s top-scorer with 68 off 38 balls, Keacy Carty got 45 from 27, and captain Rovman Powell 38runs from 24 balls.
Man of the Match Daniel Sams was the most successful bowler for the Barbados Royals, he snared four wickets for 20 runs off his four overs.
