KINGSTON, Jamaica –
Mount Pleasant FA with a tactical display, defeated Universidad O&M FC last night by 2-0 at the National Stadium, to finish unbeaten and top of Group-A, in the Concacaf Caribbean Cup.
Mount Pleasant had the better of possession and open-play in the opening minutes of the game, and they threatened with each possession.
Raheem Edwards came closest to opening the scoring in the 23rd minute. He failed to find the unattended net after his nimble feet got him around goalkeeper Iraitz Gelbentzu .
It took a well-placed and powerful free-kick by Gadail Irving from 25-yards to open the scoring in the 36th minute, and it gave Mount Pleasant a one-nil lead at halftime.
The second half was the same as the first and when a well-timed run by Raheem Edwards got the better of O&M FC’s offside trap, Edwards with speed, skill and directness, got around the advancing custodian and laid it on a platter for Ranaldo Biggs, who tapped into an empty net in the 63rd minute.
Mount Pleasant FA with maximum 12-points will be joined in the semi-final stage by Universidad O&M FC who finished second on 6-points in the group.
This is the first time in Mount Pleasant FC’s 10-years history that they have reached this far in the competition, and Owner Peter Gould has indicated that this achievement is not just a milestone, but it is also a testament of the relentless hard work, passion and belief that has driven the project from day one.
