
The much anticipated Grand Slam Track (GST) was off to an impressive start last night in Kingston Jamaica, with four events recording world-leading times.
The event which was held inside the National Stadium got off to an impressive start with the sensational Gabrielle Thomas (USA) clocking with consummate ease 22.62, to win the women’s 200m.
Christoper Bailey’s 44.34 was enough to get the better of Matthew Hudson-Smith 44.65 in the men’s 400m contest, with Vernon Norwood taking third in 44.70.
It was an exciting 800m contest as Nikki Hiltz with explosive speed in the last 20-meters clocked 1:58:23 to edge Diribe Welteji 1:58:29.
The much anticipated men’s 100m lived up to its expectation with Ben Bednarek of USA 10.07 clipping Jamaica’s Obique Seville 10.08. Zharnell Hughes and Ackeem Blake both clocked 10.13, to take third and fourth respectively.
Other winners on the night were : Ejgayehu Taye in the women’s 3000m, Alison Dos Santos men’s 400mH, Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone women’s 400mH and Grant Fisher men’s 5000m.
