With only four balls to spare, West Indies defeated Sri Lanka by seven wickets in the first of three T20I at Sabina Park last night. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Batting first on a slow but manageable surface, Sri Lanka could only amass 147 for nine off their allotted overs. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Kamindu Mendis led the scoring for Sri Lanka with 51 runs from 39 balls, and he struck four fours and two sixes before he was unfortunately run out by the combination of Forde and Hope. Next best was Kusal Mendis, who made 36 runs from 23 balls; he struck two fours and three sixes. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Bowling for the West Indies, fast bowler Jason Holder was the pick of the bowlers, taking three wickets for 18 runs off his four overs, and he was ably supported by fellow pace bowler, Shamar Joseph, who took three wickets for 29 runs off his four. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
West Indies got off to an impressive start, amassing 67 runs for the first wicket before Brandon King lost his stumps for a 22-ball 37. King who struck two sixes in one over previously tired to keep the momentum but erred in judgment against the guile of Hasaranga . King struck two fours and three sixes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Skipper Shai Hope-King’s opening partner, was unbeaten on 65 from 54 balls. Hope delighted the gathering with five fours and two sixes. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Bowling for Sri Lanka, Eshan Malinga took one wicket for 26 runs off his allotted four overs, and Wanindu Hasaranga took two for 32 . <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Both teams will turn their attention to the second game to be played at the same venue tomorrow, Saturday, June 13th, at 7:30 local time.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
