Andre Russell’s (Dre Russ )15-years international cricketing career came to an end last night when he played in his final T20I game, West Indies vs Australia, at Sabina Park.
Russell contributed 36 runs off 15 delivers, smashing four 6s and two 4s to sent the respectable and appreciative crowd into a frenzy. He bowled one over and conceded 16 runs as Australia defeated the West Indies by 8 wickets.
Over his decade and a half career, the allrounder made his biggest impact for the West Indies in the 50-overs version of the game. In 56 appearances, he averaged 21.72 with the bat, whilst registering three half-centuries, with 92 not out being his best score. With ball in hand, Russell took 70 wickets at an average of 31.84, with his best spell of bowling being 4/35.
Dre Russ’ fame and status came from his dominance in the T20 format of the game – albeit at the domestic level. In 86 T20 Internationals, Andre managed a total of 1122 runs at an average of 22 , with his highest score being 71. In the bowling department , Russell took 61 wickets at an average of 31.45 with a best return of 3/19.
International and domestic levels combined , Russell has so far amassed 9360 runs with a top-score of 121 not out .
At present , Andrew holds the record for the best batting strike rate in ODI with 130.22 and the highest score by a number 9 batsman with his 92 not out.
Andre Russell has had the experience of playing Test Cricket. He represented the Region once where he scored two-run and took one wicket for 73 runs.
